These frogs croak like the real ones do! To play, hold the frog by the hind legs and use the large end of the mallet to stroke from the base of the spiky spine to the head: rrribit… rrribit! The original design of these percussion frogs was an ancient Vietnamese drum. Our Percussion frogs are hand carved from a single piece of untreated and sustainably harvested first quality monkey pod wood, a fast growing, non-endangered, tropical fruit wood. Each frog has it's own unique sound, depending on the size of the hollow cavern and the wood density. Generally, the small frogs sound like peepers or tree frogs, and the larger ones resonate in deeper tones like bullfrogs. Male frogs croak during breeding season to attract mates. Besides their rrribits, these amphibians are famous for their metamorphosis from tadpoles into adult frogs and for their ability to leap. It's a shame croaking is gradually disappearing along with frogs' habitat, especially when wetlands or rainforests are destroyed for development. I consider these great pieces an honor to a very beneficial creature. This cool guy measures 3 inches high by about 4.5 inches long. Photo is representative, as each piece is unique. This offering is for the MEDIUM frog highlighted by the arrow in the photo. Hand carved in Thailand, this guy comes with a handmade paper box as shown. Warning: choking hazard. Not suitable for children under 3 years of age.
