This unique ring is not black opal, though it looks somewhat like it and has been compared to it. This flashing stone is called ammolite, and is a very rare gemstone. The only mine in the world is in Canada. Over 70 million years of tectonic pressure created this brilliant gemstone from the fossilized shell of a prehistoric ammonite. Ammolite was first discovered by the Blackfoot Indians in an area bordering the Canadian Rocky mountains. Called "Iniskim" or "the buffalo stone", it was believed to be a powerful medicine possessing healing properties. Today, the wearer of the ammolite gem may find negative energy turning into positive, while becoming more open and generous. I was only able to get a few of these lovely ammolite rings, and cannot get any more. The ring that you see in the photo is the actual ring you will receive.
