Description
This lovely ring is made by the Huichol Indians from the Planteros Cooperative. The Huichols are a small tribe of approximately 15,000 living in central western Mexico near Ixtlan in the Sierra Madre Mountains. They are said to be the last tribe in North America to have maintained their pre-Columbian traditions. Because of this they are famous for their strong ceremonial tradition, rich mythology and incredible visionary artwork. Shamanism pervades every aspect of Huichol life, from the way they plant their corn to the way they raise their children. Their joyful way of life reflects a dynamic shamanic tradition. Huichol shamans and healers still practice today as they have for unnumbered generations. A piece of jewelry from this tribe is truly special! This ring is considered 'Medicine Art' with the 5 cardinal points in the blossom of the ring. The blossom measures 10mm in diameter, and this ring is a size 8. The blossom is made of lapis, and it is inlaid with sterling silver. The ring set that you see in the photo is the actual ring you will receive. The Sumerians believed that the spirit of their gods lived within the stone, while the ancient Egyptians saw it as a symbol of the night sky. Since the earliest of times, lapis lazuli has been associated with royalty, strength and courage, wisdom and intellect, friendship and truth.
